Getting started

What will be expected?

Counseling is a partnership. Here is what will help you gain the most from it.

1

Be Concise

Identify the problem or challenges in accurate and specific terms.

2

Be Honest

As in everything in life, honesty is required for meaningful and profitable counseling. My job is not to judge, but to listen, gain insight, and give the resources and guidance necessary for you to make the changes you desire to reach the goals that you will set for yourself. I cannot do my job, nor help you reach your goals, if you are not completely open and honest with me about your feelings, thoughts and behaviors.

3

Be Patient

You did not get to the place you currently find yourself overnight, so you need to understand that it will take time to change those current habits of thinking, feeling and behaving. The number of sessions will be based on identified needs and resources required for you to meet your personal goals.

4

Be Committed

Consultation is beneficial only if those seeking counsel make the necessary long-term investment and follow through with the principles that affect change.
