Lively Communication (Part 4)

February 15, 2014

Learn and practice observable communication. We have often heard folks say, "Actions speak louder than words." Well, the Apostle John worded it this way: "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth" (1 John 3:18). The words with which we choose to express out thoughts can often be muted by our actions. Conversely, a valued message can be communicated in a lasting profound way by the application in one's life of the principles they desire to share with others. Living the message we are trying to convey is profoundly powerful.  The Apostle Peter described the effectiveness of nonverbal communication in the following words: "Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear...let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price...Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered" (1 Peter 3:1-7). It is imperative that couples learn and practice observable communication so their verbal conversations are more than just words.
